Video message from Vladimir Ryabinin to the EuroMarine network during EuroMarine 2020 General Assembly meeting
During EuroMarine 6th General Assembly meeting (hosted by NIB in Piran, Slovenia, 16-17 Jan. 2020), Vladimir Ryabinin (Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission and Assistant Director General of UNESCO) delivered a video message informing on and inviting to participate in the definition and implementation of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

This summary report on EuroMarine 2014-17 activities was showcased at the EurOCEAN2019 conference on the EuroMarine booth. Printed copies will be distributed to member organisations. An electronic (14 Mb PDF) version is available for download.
IPBES 7th plenary opening surprise show - Steps for a Change
In line with its continued efforts to encourage the marine science community to engage in IPBES biodiversity assessments and strengthen their marine components, EuroMarine is proud to have co-sponsored (after a decision of the Chairs, using budget remnants from the Secretariat) the surprise dance performance of the opening ceremony of IPBES 7th plenary meeting (Unesco, Paris, 29 April 2019) called Steps for a change.
IRD Images has filmed and edited the moving performance of 14 girls dancing for biodiversity.
IPBES account of the show: At the IPBES 7th Plenary Opening Session, a surprise youth initiative delivered a moving performance before the honorable guests, delegates and media at UNESCO. Through six dance sequences (oceans, coral reefs, deep seas, invasive species, desertification, restoration of natural areas), the dancers aged between 7 and 13 from “Les Arts en Scène” dance school (Montpellier, France) carry a message : the urgency to act in the face of biodiversity loss. « Steps for a change » is a creation by Emily Lartillot (dance teacher and choreographer) and Yunne Shin (IRD marine ecologist, and coordinating lead author of the IPBES Global Assessment on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services). Steps for a change was realized in partnership with IPBES, IRD, UNESCO, FRB, MARBEC, University of Montpellier, CeMEB, EuroMarine and CERES.

EuroMarine Young Scientist Working Group has begun work to understand and help develop the marine landscape for early career researchers.

EuroMarine workshop "Ocean Frontiers for Sustainable Development" in Brussels, 26 April 2018

EuroMarine encourages research collaboration at A New Era of Blue Enlightenment event in Lisbon, 12-14 July 2017
Commissioner Carlos Moedas hosted the High-Level Ministerial and Scientific event, joined by high-level government representatives from Brazil and South Africa, as well as from the European Union.
This event celebrates the launch of the South Atlantic Flagship Initiative between the European Union, Brazil and South Africa, aiming to better understand and protect marine ecosystems and the link between oceans and climate.
EuroMarine held a session on 12 July at 13:15, to introduce the network and how it assists scientists from its member institutes and beyond to collaborate and innovate for marine science, highlighting the potential to achieve big results with incentive funding. Four activity leaders presented their work with EuroMarine.

EuroMarine launches Young Scientist Fellowship Programme in conjunction with its 2017 Call for Proposals
Scientists from EuroMarine Member Organisations are invited to apply for the two EuroMarine 2017 Funding Calls, one for scientific and foresight activities and the other a programme for early career scientists to attend training courses.
EuroMarine considers supporting capacity building for young scientists a key priority. Therefore, EuroMarine has launched a new Young Scientist Fellowship Programme focused on financially supporting individual early career scientists from EuroMarine Member Organisations to participate in training courses. The application deadline for the Individual Fellowships is 2 May 2017.

Science Inspiration Leads to Innovation for Blue Growth
Over 120 stakeholders, comprising of marine scientists, industry members, policymakers, and students, convened at the European Parliament on 8 February 2017 to contribute to the EuroMarine event “Blue Science for Blue Growth, EuroMarine: connecting ideas and people”. Proving to be a resounding success, the event turned out to be a thought-provoking and illuminating dialogue on our oceans, and introduced the work and aims of EuroMarine to a wider audience.
Reporting on the success of the meeting, Catherine Boyen said, “EuroMarine is a unique initiative bringing together the best European expertise in marine sciences. We now have to capitalize on these promising achievements, to make more progress for the future of our blue planet.”
