ICYMARE Workshop: Boosting the impact of your science through effective communication

EMB Young Ambassadors Alessandro Cresci, Rebecca Zitoun and Anjali Gopakumar are organizing a workshop within the scope of the International Conference for YOUNG Marine Researchers (ICYMARE) 2021 edition. The 3-hour workshop, taking place from 12:30-15:30 CEST on 23 September 2021, will be on "Boosting the impact of your science through effective communication: Learning how to be heard by media, policy makers and stakeholders.

ICAN 9: Virtual Workshop Local to Global - Benefits of Coastal Web Atlas Sharing & Connectivity

The workshop will provide an opportunity to present and discuss recent innovations in atlases, how atlases can contribute to the goals of the UN´s Decade of Ocean Science and it will also investigate synergies with other initiatives such as the IODE OceanInfoHub.

Time: 10am-1pm EST, 2pm-5pm UTC, 4pm-7pm CEST

Session I – Coastal Atlas Community: aiming to introduce new and established resources and connect with the wider coastal web atlas (CWA) community

Towards a Coordinated European Observing System for Marine Macroaglae

Online workshop organized by EuroSea.

The event will discuss priorities for sustained and coordinated observations needed to preserve macroalgae and their associated biodiversity, and to ensure those ecosystems will continue to deliver key ecosystem functions and services in a changing ocean.

Join this event to discuss observation strategies, data standards and sharing, integration, and operating procedures for observations in this important ecosystem and economic area.

Time: 10-12 and 2-4 CET (2 sessions per day)

Registration open until 30th October

Oceanthon 2021: Mediterranean Edition

The main theme of Oceanthon 2021 is "Ocean&Climate", as part of Pre-COP26 in Milan and the challenges of the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. The focus is dedicated to the Mediterranean area, for this reason the event is addressed to everyone, from researchers, innovators, developers, marine scientists, social scientists, designers, engineers, experts in economy, business and communication, from all the Mediterranean countries.

Webinar: Ocean and Climate Change: Building Adaptation, Mitigation, and Resilience

This event is aimed to explore the impacts of climate change and strategies to build adaptation and mitigation processes. It will also showcase the One Ocean Hub research on climate change impacts and building adaptation and resilience that is built on existing networks in some of our focus countries. The One Ocean Hub adopts inter- and trans-disciplinarity, working with stakeholders and experts from varied disciplines including marine science, law, anthropology, sociology, history, and arts.

Webinar: Climatic Controls on Metabolic Constraints in the Ocean

This webinar, hosted by SANCOR, will present a study where they have leveraged a compilation of physiological data quantifying the temperature sensitivity and oxygen requirements of metabolic rates for a range of marine species adapted to specific conditions (“ecotypes”). They use these data to evaluate the ocean’s “metabolic state,” the ability of environments to support aerobic metabolisms.

9th Workshop of the International Coastal Atlas Network

The 9th International Coastal Atlas Workshop (ICAN 9) will be held online from September 27 to 29th 2021, with a series of live and recorded content. The workshop will provide an opportunity to present and discuss recent innovations in atlases, how atlases can contribute to the goals of the UN´s Decade of Ocean Science and it will also investigate synergies with other initiatives such as the IODE OceanInfoHub.

GOOS-OECD-MEDIN Webinar: Value chains in public marine data

An original survey of UK marine data users, conducted by the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS), the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the Marine Environmental Data and Information Network (MEDIN), explores the pathways through which marine data are used and transformed into actionable information, in order to better value vital marine information. The results of this initial survey have just been published in a new paper – Value chains in public marine data.

Unlocking the potential of Ports and Harbours in preventing and reducing the effects of Marine Litter

This workshop looks at the most promising R&I solutions undertaken, as well as the policy instruments implemented, in the management and valorization of plastic litter in Ports/Harbours and their hinterland at Mediterranean level. The aim of the event is to identify gaps and bottlenecks to be overcome for an effective prevention and mitigation from the impact of marine litter across the whole basin.
