The Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR) is a research and advanced training institution of the University of Porto. It develops high-quality research, promotes technological development and supports public policies in the area of Marine and Environmental Sciences. CIIMAR is a multidisciplinary institution organised into three thematic areas. 27 research groups with a wide range of scientific expertise share a common vision "to contribute to the knowledge of the ocean as a basis for the sustainable management and exploitation of resources". The translation of the research into tangible benefits for society is pursued through participation in projects contributing to public policy design and implementation at regional, national and European level, and through the implementation of an extensive outreach program addressed to all sectors of society.
