The Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre (MARE) in Lisbon supports research, technological development and innovation with an integrative and holistic approach. MARE combines expertise allowing for a scientific and technological approach to all types of aquatic systems in a context of global and regional changes and cumulative anthropogenic impacts. The mission of MARE is to seek excellence in the study of aquatic ecosystems and disseminate knowledge to support policies for sustainable development. This mission is achieved through scientific research, education and knowledge and technology transfer to industry, as well as through the dissemination of science, establishing collaborative networks at the regional, national and international levels. MARE integrates three ecosystem-oriented Research Groups (River Basins, Estuaries and Coastal Zones, Open-Ocean and Deep-Sea).
