NORD University has nine study locations, but the main campus is in Bodø, Norway. Bodø is also where marine studies at Nord University’s Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture are situated. The faculty is one of four faculties at the university, which also hosts terrestrial studies at its location in Steinkjer. The faculty has about 50 members in the permanent scientific staff, 10 Postdocs and 40 PhD students. The staff is spread over five divisions: Aquaculture, Ecology, Genomics, Algae and Microbial Biotechnology, and Animal Science, Production and Welfare. Except for the last division, all have a strong marine profile. An important goal of Nord University is to enhance the understanding of marine ecosystem responses to environmental changes, both benthic and pelagic systems, and across trophic levels from microalgae to zooplankton. All divisions have extended use of molecular tools in their research, and bring competence from their genomics platform into the network, as well as expertise knowledge about ecosystem functioning especially in the subarctic coastal zone of northern Norway, extending into Arctic regions.
