The primary task of the Ruđer Bošković Institute (RBI) in Croatia is to conduct excellent basic research, with particular emphasis on complex interdisciplinary programs. This includes the development of innovative research, participation in higher education and knowledge transfer to the economy, with the goal of developing new high-tech products and increasing public awareness of the importance of knowledge and science. These tasks are carried out in cooperation with universities, scientific institutes and similar institutions in Croatia and other countries. The interdisciplinary Center for Marine Research has focused its activities on basic and applied oceanographic research. Their research includes processes and dynamics within and between trophic levels, investigation of water mass dynamics, ecosystems and ecological, physiological and genetic research on marine organisms and the impacts of pollution.
