The Sinop University in Turkey was established in 2007. The educational and research activities of the University occur in 8 schools – the faculty of Fisheries, Arts, Education, Economics, Theology, Engineering and Architecture, Fine Arts and Sports Science. The Faculty of Fisheries consists of three departments, including the department of aquaculture. Themes of study are based on basic sciences, fisheries and processing technology. Fisheries research aims to determine the problems and propose solutions in the area of fisheries. The research covers the most current issues in aquaculture and fisheries, and routine surveys on fish species to measure population characteristics are also undertaken. Marine Biology is also an area of study, looking at biological effects of change on marine organisms and ecology. The department is involved in several EC-funded projects.
