The University of Aveiro (UAVR) is one of the leading universities in Portugal. With approximately 15,000 students, UAVR has 16 Academic Departments and 4 Polytechnic Schools. Research at UAVR promotes innovative products and solutions, contributing to the advance of science and technology. The Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies encompasses four thematic lines; marine ecosystems and resources, environmental biology and health, ecology and functional biodiversity, and integrated environmental systems. Focus in the marine area is on blue growth, ecosystem-based marine governance, marine ecosystem services, and technology for coastal and ocean observation. This thematic line involves multidisciplinary research, monitoring, advice, training, dissemination and outreach to underpin integrated assessment, management and governance of coast and ocean systems, deliver food security, preserve biodiversity and maintain ecosystem services.
