The University of Oslo is a leading European University and Norway's largest. The University of Oslo has a long-standing tradition in research on topics related to the Arctic/High North, carrying out research related to the Arctic within a wide range of areas within Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences and Law. Centres working on marine and ocean related research include the Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis. Areas of study include ecology, population dynamics, genomics and bio-economics of marine fish stocks, although the main aim of the group is to explain the fluctuations in major fish populations. Mathematical models, field activities and laboratory studies are undertaken in the area of Oceanography, which includes dimensions and impacts of climate change. The research groups have extensive collaboration with both national and international institutes.
