 In 2021 EuroMarine is organising a slate of distinct, parallel calls:

  • A call for proposals of Foresight Workshops (this call)
  • A call for application for individual fellowships (targeting EuroMarine PhD students and scholars within five years of their doctoral degree)
  • A call for proposals to organise a EuroMarine Summer School on Ocean Transformation (targeting summer 2022)
  • A call for nominations for the PEARL Working Group (nominees should be recently retired marine researchers)
  • A call for topics for EuroMarine Podcasts (this is a non-competitive, volunteer-driven trial)

The general terms of these calls have been preannounced on 18 May 2021.

Overview - Call for proposals for FWS

In 2021 EuroMarine will be funding Foresight Workshops ('horizon scanning', FWS), with each funded FWS receiving up to a maximum of €7,500.

Eligibility Criteria

  • FSW proposals should have a clear foresight dimension and target a scientific publication. While the call is open to any topic, the Steering Committee would welcome proposals addressing EuroMarine priorities, as defined in EuroMarine's 2018 publication Ocean Frontiers for Sustainable Development Manifesto. Additionally, support to initiatives within the All Atlantic strategy and pledge are welcome.
  • Proposals should involve at least three Full Member Organisations of EuroMarine (2021 members), from at least two different countries. (Please refer to the provisional 2021 membership list and the corresponding list of General Assembly representatives, both attached to the present call, and do not hesitate to contact secretariatateuromarinenetwork [dot] eu for any contact information).
  • Activities should be carried out within 2022 and any exemption sought, must be justified in the proposal.

Evaluation Procedure

Proposals will be reviewed against criteria of scientific excellence and using specific pools of EuroMarine referees. The EuroMarine Steering Committee will make final decisions.

To submit a proposal, please fill in and return the application form (using either the Word or the Open Office template) following instructions therein.

Provisional Timeline

  • Preannouncement: 18 May 2021
  • Call Opens: 26 May 2021
  • Deadline for proposal submission: 30 July 2021
  • Review and Evaluation: 30 July 2021- 30 Sept 2021
  • Results Announced: Third week of November 2021   

Notification and publication of outcome - Participation in funded activities

All proposers will receive a notification by the announced deadline and the outcome will be posted on the EuroMarine website once proposers have confirmed their acceptance of EuroMarine funds.

Activities funded by EuroMarine are open (within budgetary and logistic constraints) to EuroMarine members (beyond those identified by the proposers at proposal stage).

Each of the activities funded by EuroMarine will be described on a specific webpage on the EuroMarine website and will be announced in a timely manner on the EuroMarine mailing list so that EuroMarine members can apply to participate. EuroMarine members can refer to the online the list of all future EuroMarine activities, which includes all future funded scientific activities and will include activities funded under the present call after the outcome publication date.
